Lone Star Curling Club Meeting Minutes, March 10, 2013
Attendees: Pat, Buck, Ken, Wayne, Landy, Tim, Dennis, Joe, Darin, Lauri Jones
Not attending: Uly
Treasurer’s Report:
About $9K in the bank
Learn To Curl:
Did well at learn to curl, 26 new people plus 7 at Jono’s party
Got people from Reddit, Google/Facebook, the sign at the rink, and word of mouth
Converted a few into full time and subs
Membership:
Down in the last few years from 48 to 35 full time
Make personal calls to the learn to curl folks
AI: Tim to get numbers and Tim, Ken, Darin, and Buck to call
Find out why folks leave
Must be able to build on the Olympics, push for a weekday night draw
Winter Season:
One sub (Carl) got turned away because we had too many
Preference given to subs who respond to Darin they are coming
Virginia/Emily/Carl added to teams
New curlers enjoyed themselves
AI: Pat to call Teri and see if she will come back if placed on her preferred team
For next fall, randomize the teams? Use skip ratings to help balance the league? Table for now
Two divisions an option, but could limit new curlers ability to learn
Chaparral:
Need to talk to them about Summer times and Olympic learn to curl sessions
The Pond still waiting on permits
AI: Buck, Pat, and Ken to meet with them to discuss available times
T-shirts:
We are low on mediums, good on other sizes
We owe 6 shirts for the learn to curl
Tim made motion for Pat to order 100 more shirts, Darin seconded, motion carried.
We should use a ticketing system for learn to curl slots during the Olympics
Need to get pins to the people who haven’t got them yet
AI: Tim to get list of people who paid to Tim, Landon to bring list 3/17
Future planning:
Tim Labadie will talk to his wife about becoming a non-profit 503
AI: Buck to set up Future Planning meeting
AI: Landon to check to see if we can tag on USCA’s 503 status
Media:
Ken has made some minor changes to the web site
Tim will continue to post to Facebook and Twitter
Darin will update the schedules/teams
When the Olympics approach, add TV schedule to the website
USCA Rink Championships:
Ken to mention it at 3/17 curling
As of now club will not pick up any player expenses
Club to determine the best team to represent us
Membership meeting:
Hold May 19th after curling (at Chaparral) to get maximum participation
Afterwards can go somewhere for food
Austin Curling Center:
Looking at other locations (Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville)
Austin Sports Commission providing some assistance
Wrap up:
Next meeting will be April 7 at Cover 3
